Saudi Arabia to start shale production by year-end
Saudi Aramco plans to produce Saudi Arabia’s first shale gas in the northwest of the country by the end of 2017
to feed a power plant built as part of a phosphate mining complex.
The Jalamid field will be the first shale gas project to start up in Saudi Arabia,
but only 5.6 million cubic metres per day (MMcm/d) will be sent to the Wa’ad Al-Shamal complex by 2018.
Furthermore, Jalamid will provide only a fraction of Aramco’s targeted 113 MMcm/d unconventional gas output by 2026.
