Saudi Arabia denies rumours of spike in domestic travel prices

  • Business

Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) has denied that there will be any increase in ticket prices as the kingdom eases restrictions on domestic travel.

On Wednesday, the GACA’s spokesman, Ibrahim Alrosa, said that rumours suggesting an 80 percent increase in ticket prices were false.

With the easing of restrictions, Saudia plans to operate 60 daily domestic flights from Sunday, as part of a larger three-phase plan to reopen the kingdom’s economy and return to normality.

The move followed a directive from GACA stating that flights could resume.

Domestic flights in Saudi Arabia were stopped on March 21, just several days after the Covid-19 pandemic brought international flights to and from the kingdom to a stop.

To date, there have been 80,185 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Saudi Arabia, including 441 deaths and 54,553 recoveries.
