Prince Harry said the baby was “absolutely to die for”. He added: “How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension, but we’re both absolutely thrilled and so grateful to all the love and support from everybody out there.”
Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, was said to be “overjoyed” while her father, Thomas Markle, said he was sure that the baby “would grow up to serve the crown and the people of Britain with grace, dignity, and honour”.
The location of the birth is the subject of speculation in the morning papers. The BBC says it is believed the birth was in Frogmore House – the couple’s cottage in Windsor.
However, The Sun says that Meghan’s plans for a home birth at Frogmore House were “shattered” and that she was forced to make “a secret hospital dash” to the Portland private hospital with Harry and their Scotland Yard security team.
According to The Times, “resolute in their quest for privacy and determined to have a birth that reflected their personalities and values rather than the established practices of the past”, the couple “took every step to ensure that their first child came into a world that was as much California as it was Windsor”.
