1st Riyadh Friendship Basketball League begins

The long wait is finally over as the newly formed Riyadh Friendship Basketball League (RFBL) unveiled its first tournament with a colorful opening ceremony at Othman Basketball Court Exit 7 here recently.


Nine teams highlighted the opening ceremony led by Arabian Homes, Marcafe, Saudia Cargo Riyadh, Metroballers, KSA Allstars, Little Caesar, Team NSD, The Brotherhood and Tambay Pogi.

League founder Mike Calungcaguin, chairman Algae Catana, vice chairman Richard Calungcagin spearheaded the opening ceremony with the support of league commissioners Andrew Vallejo and Michael Pajela.

The Brotherhood beat Team NSD 85-76. The winner’s trapping defense was oustanding. Mohd Jambongana scored 11 points and 9 rebounds for the winner.

Arabian Homes defeated KSA All Star 48-47. The winner escaped a near defeat but a buzzer-beating shot by Nhey Castro gave them their come-from-behind win. He also chipped in with 22 points for the winner.

In the last game, Marcafe beat Saudia Cargo Riyadh 69-54. The winner played wise offense in the final quarter as it utilized its open man for easy baskets. Kurt Dela Pena top scored with 28 big points for the winner.
